Being a teacher is definitely being a real-life superhero.

Not only it is one of the most challenging jobs but it also requires a whole array of patience, effort and sometimes, sacrifices.

That is the case of 23 year-old elementary teacher Maricris Llaguno who teaches at the San Jose Elementary School in Dancalan, Bohol.

She wakes up very early in the morning to prepare for her extremely long journey to her haven: the school where her students are waiting for her to shed some light on their minds dampened by ignorance.

After she prepared herself, she has to endure the tiring 20 kilometer drive to the school.

True, the drive can be very tiresome but according to her, seeing the kids smile livens up her day.

Throughout the day, she has to endure the challenges every teacher face.

Noisy pupils, messy classrooms and document deadlines are always part of her life.

But these don’t stop her from fulfilling her pledge to serve the students.

At the end of her each day, she has to drive the lengthy roads and get home just in time to catch up some sleep before she begins another cycle of her day.

According to her, the journey means that she has to travel through 20 barangays and one light, wooden bridge to cross through a river.

During the earlier times, she has to cross the river using a small boat.

Her incredible selfless journey started just after she graduated from Bicol University in 2014.

While many other students enjoy the comfy of air-conditioned classrooms and comfortable seats, Teacher Maricris and her students enjoy the comfy of reading books together.

According to some sources, she is a multi-grade teacher because of the present national problem of lack of teacher manpower.

Sometimes, she has to teach two classes simultaneously and often leaves the other class to a “little teacher”, who is a student quite advanced than her classmates.

No wonder, she is featured in the reality TV show Reel Time.

Indeed, teachers are one of the most underpaid professions considering their selfless acts and sacrifices.

According to some notions, teachers should receive salaries as well as doctors since they both save lives.
