There were no celebrations and congratulatory tarpaulins.
Instead, grief and mourning took over the place of glee and jubilee.
Just hours before the releasing of results for the Nursing Licensure Examination (NLEx) last Tuesday, Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU) fresh graduates Louis Mitchell Nayre Ferolin and Alexa Eddy Ceniza Carvajal passed away due to a vehicular accident.
This very untimely passing came just hours before the Philippine Regulatory Commission (PRC) released the names of 5, 875 passers out of 12, 869 takers.
According to the list, Ferolin’s and Carvajal’s sequence number is 1368 and 2352, respectively.
The unfortunate accident happened in Governor Cuenco Street in Barangay Barrio Luz, Cebu City, dawn of Tuesday.
Ferolin was driving an Isuzu MU-X car with plate number ABN 5206 and Carvajal is the passenger.
According to SPO4 Ramon Budiongan from the Traffic Patrol Group of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), the car lost control when it negotiated the ascending part of the road towards the flyover.
Due to this, it crashed into the flyover’s metal railings which proved to be fatal for the two.
They were rushed to the hospital but was later declared dead.
Hours later, the official page of their alma mater posted its condolences and official acknowledgement of the two’s scholarly identity.
In its post, CDU said, “Heaven gained 2 new RNs (registered nurses) today. Our prayers are with you and your families. RIP Louis Ferolin and Alexa Carvajal of Batch 2017.”
Well, this could easily be one of the most remembered NLEx ever.
Our deepest condolences to the families of these two students.
