Familial roles are indeed reflection of familial love.

Left without parents to take care of her, Indonesian teen Syifa experiences the most extreme condition one could think of.

Her father died in a tragic car accident when she was 5 months old and her mother followed 3 months later.

And to top all of this, the 17-year old teen is suffering from a rare genetic abnormality which resulted in a disease called Malabsorption syndrome.

From the term itself, the syndrome makes the patient’s small intestine unresponsive to certain biological processes that results to the intestine not absorbing enough nutrients and fluid needed by the body.

These nutrients can particularly refer to certain macronutrients like protein, carbohydrate and fats and certain micronutrients like vitamins and minerals.

Because of this, Syifa cannot instantly absorb the nutrients coming from a wheat bread, rice or basically from just anything we can eat.

Due to her condition, she is living in a literal ‘skin-and-bone’ state at which her skin can be seen directly ‘attached’ straightly to the bones.

She also cannot do anything on her own and needs someone to constantly take care of her.

But who thought that she can survive 17 long years suffering from that debilitating diseade.

Thanks to her loving grandfather named Toton, she is constantly being took care of.

They live in a not so wealthy locality in Pangandaran, West Java.

But despite of hard life and his granddaughter’s condition, Toton vowed to continue taking care of Syifa until his own health may permit him.

Life had been difficult for the two of them since Toton doesn’t receive any financial aid or pension from the government even though he was a retired soldier.

So Toton have no choice other than to sell vegetables, which he also plants, so they can have money to buy their food.

He also have to take care of his granddaughter’s physical needs like cooking for her, feeding her, making up for her personal hygiene lapses and many more.

Truly, Toton is an inspiration and a living reminder that familial love is a love worth giving.
