Ninety-two beautiful candidates and Miss South Africa stood her ground to be the Universe’s most ‘confidently beautiful’ woman.
Amid the frenzy atmosphere inside The AXIS in Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, the 22-year old Demi-Leigh Neil-Peter walked with grace and finesse to allure the panel of judges and captivate the hearts of many.
Tagged as an early favorite, Neil-Peters bagged the crown in expense of Miss Colombia and Miss Jamaica, who finished first and second runners-up, respectively.
Under the revised guidelines of the pageant, the candidates are grouped into three according to their country’s regional locations, thus Americas, Europe and Africa-Asia Pacific.
Four candidates from each group will advance to the top 16 while the remaining four will fall under the wildcard slot which will be open to all regardless of regional divisions.
She belonged to the first four advancers from the Africa-Asia Pacific division and she went on to conquer the international competition.
Philippine bet and crowd-favorite Rachel Peters finished on the top 10 but failed to advance to the top five.
This year’s edition of the pageant featured history as Laos, Cambodia and Nepal joined for the very first time.
Also, Iraq sent its candidate after four decades of begging off.
This year’s judges composed of big names from the pageant and fashion industry emphasized that they are looking for a woman who have both ‘poise and wit.’
Luckily for Neil-Peters, she possessed them both.
