After declaring their selves as a solid and die-hard supporter of the present administration, Margaux “Mocha” Uson and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque are included among the names we can shade on the ballots for senatorial seats on the Election 2019.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez declared that they will be both running under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), the same party which Duterte is currently associated with.
According to the report released online by ABS-CBN News, Uson and Roque are among the names released by the party together with other high-profile personalities such as lawmakers Karlo Nograles, Bataan Congresswoman Geraldine Roman, Congressman Albee Benitez, and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair Francis Tolentino.
As expected, this announcement drew flak from the Filipino people.
One netizen sarcastically wrote, “Philippines run! Mocha will be running for a senatorial slot in 2019!”
Another posted, “Oh tatakbo raw si Mocha. Wag n’yo nang habulin ah?”
But in response with these reactions, Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III declared that the party is yet to decide on their official senatorial line-up.
It can be remembered that Uson, Roque and Tolentino are all Duterte appointees on their respective offices while the three lawmakers were former members of Liberal Party (Roman and Benitez) and National Unity Party (Nograles) before switching sides to the PDP-Laban.
However, both Uson and Roque voiced out that they are still undecided whether or not they will accept the proposed line-up made by Alvarez.
On the other hand, Roque thanked Alvarez for the endorsement but is also quick to add that he don’t have the means to fund a senatorial campaign and his main focus as of now is to serve as the Presidential Spokesperson.
