Amid pouring tears and extreme grief on Franco Hernandez’ last night at Arlington Memorial, fellow Its Showtime member Vice Ganda injected wit and humor on his tribute speech to lighten up the heavy atmosphere.
Vice is a known close friend of Franco, with both of them sharing light and kulitan moments between breaks and on takes of the noontime show Its Showtime and extending their closeness even off-cam.
The comedian started on how he and Franco developed their friendship by saying “Sabay po kaming nag-audition sa Hashtag (Franco’s boy band group) which brought laughs as Vice is not known for being a dancer.
He added that Franco is the one he constantly looks to as they perform because he is the “pinakamagaling” but jokingly added that just like the first batch of Hashtags, “..hindi [sila]sabay-sabay sumayaw.”
Vice also blurted out a sensual-themed joke pertaining to the moment he and Franco shared on the after-party of the Tawag ng Tanghalan finals which he said happened “…sa taas ng Sogo [a lodging chain]”
On the same party, Vice narrated on how he knew that Franco once worked for Jack Daniel’s [an alcohol company] and Franco offered to give him alcohol products as a gift but he disagreed because “..libre ako sa Red Horse [local alcohol company] dahil nanay ko yong logo,” pertaining to the popular horse design.
He also joked on Franco’s extraordinary voice and admitted that he jokingly copies it to bring laughs and fun moments.
But amid the laughs inspired by Vice’s jokes, he also expressed his extreme grief on Franco’s loss while highlighting the latter’s good attributes such as positive disposition and happiness that is always present anytime.
On the past few days, Vice figured in an online word war with a student netizen who maliciously joked about Franco’s passing.
